We’ve designed John Newling’s new book ‘An Essential Disorientation’ for the Polish Museum of Modern Art.
Containing both English and Polish translations of the text, the book challenges conventional ideas of sacredness in relation to the Church and constructs a set of connections between contemporary art practice and sacred activites.
The commissioned essay deploys a cartography of the sacred within both the secular and the religious via the ‘liminal’ as an anthropological method of understanding ourselves and our construct of nature in relation to sacredness.
The book was recently launched in conjunction with a series of lectures delivered by Newling in Poland.
